SRINAGAR: Security forces launched a joint search operation in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district on Tuesday after suspicious movement was reported near an under-construction tunnel, officials said.
A security guard deployed at the construction site noticed the movement and fired three to four rounds as a precautionary measure, they said.
No casualties or damage to property have been reported in connection with the incident so far.
Following the report, personnel from the police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) began a search operation at around 6 am in the forested areas of Bhatadurian, Sangiot and adjoining locations.
The operation is continuing as security personnel search the area for any suspicious individuals or activity.
