SRINAGAR

Srinagar Jammu, highway the only road link to outside world remained closed for the second consecutive day, Thursday after heavy snowfall on Wednesday.

“No passenger should undertake journey before contacting our control rooms in Jammu and Srinagar to know about the status of the highway,” traffic police officials said.

Baramulla-Banihal rail service also remained shut for the second day on Thursday, authorities said. However, air traffic has been resumed after the runway of Srinagar International Airport was cleared.

Kashmir received the season’s heaviest snowfall during the past 48 hours, which disrupted road links, air connectivity, and electric and water supplies.

Although inter-district connectivity has been restored, people in many parts of Srinagar and other towns continued to complain about the failure of the electricity department to restore power supply.

Complaints have come from most of the cities, towns and villages of the Kashmir Valley that they are without electric and power supply.

Meanwhile, the weather office has forecast improvement in weather from Thursday.
