Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) Chairperson Prof Hameeda Nayeem Tuesday alleged that some treacherous proposals of the government that have been quietly and intriguingly thrown up during the past several weeks aimed at inflicting a body blow  to our psyche, demographics  of the  state and creation of communal  balkanization and last but not least the ‘tacit’ work being done for the construction of thousands of structures to settle outside state homeless beggars in Jammu and Kashmir is aimed at to make the contents of Article 370 obsolete and redundant.

Hameeda Nayeem told CNS that even on temporary basis non-state subjects will not be allowed to settle in Kashmir. “It will never be allowed to happen. Our credibility and identity is at stake,” she said adding that Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies will call for a joint meeting with other groups to counter this anti-Kashmir proposal.

“We warn the government in strongest terms against the implementation of this treacherous and illegitimate plan which is aimed at legitimizing the illegal settlements. The  construction of permanent shelters for non-state subjects in Jammu and Kupwara districts under National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) is a sinister design and we have come to know that Government of India is mulling to spent Rs 20,000 Crores for the construction of Israeli type settlements in Kashmir in coming 10 years,” she said adding that the process of construction will first start from Kupwara and Jammu and then it will be extended to other districts including Srinagar, Samba, Budgam, Reasi and Kathua.

“It is a serious issue and a direct ploy to settle non-state subjects in Kashmir. Come what may, we will not allow government to construct settlements for floating population given the fact that nobody is homeless in Kashmir,” she said.
