Police charged protesters with canes when they took to roads in Peerbagh Srinagar demanding forensic report with regard to the murder of a youth be made public.
Owais Bashir Malik, an engineering student, was found dead near Peerbagh railway track on January 14 this year. On January 19, senior police officers in a press conference claimed that “Owais had died in a scuffle with a youngster who he had befriended him on the Facebook.” Police had arrested Ishan Majeed who hails from Bandipora district along with the three railway police constables in the case.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that scores of protesters including the family members of the slain youth emerged on road and tried to block the traffic. The protesters alleged that Police are not serious in solving the case and is resorting to dilly-dallying tactics. They demanded that forensic report should be made public and the matter should be probed by an independent agency.
The family members of the slain youth claimed that doctors of Government Medical College Srinagar have forwarded the forensic report to police but still the policies not providing them a copy of a report. “Police are trying to shield the real culprits, who are very influential. My son has not been murdered by a single person but there others are also involved in it,” the father of the slain youth said.
Police used mild lathi charge to disperse the protesters.
