SRINAGAR

As the Shopian gunfight concludes, three civilians are reported to have been injured by the bullets after the clashes erupted between police and protesters. All the three persons have been evacuated to the hospital in Srinagar.

Police sources in Srinagar said of the three persons injured, one has received a bullet in his thigh, another in the leg and a third in the chest. “The one carrying a bullet wound in his chest seemingly is superficial but let us wait for doctors opinion,” the police officer privy to the developments said. “There have been some pellet injuries too.”

The injuries were reported after the gunfight was over and police recovered two bodies from the house that went up in flames during the e3ncounter. The gun-battle in Batmurran started late Monday evening and continued intermittently for most of the night. Though the rumours were wild about the killing of two militants Monday night police confirmed the killings only Tuesday morning.

“We had the initial reports that three militants were trapped in the house,” the officer said. “Since only two bodies were recovered, it is presumed the one has given a slip.”

Reports from Shopian said, the locals rushed the injured to the district hospital wherefrom they were referred to Srinagar. One is in SMHS another is in Bone & Joints Hospital, police said.
