The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday directed Director General Prisons (DG) to keep detailed records of detainees under trials Convicted (both local and nonlocal) available as SHRC team would be visiting the Central Jail Srinagar tomorrow (Tuesday).

The spokesman in a statement said that SHRC chairperson Bilal Nazki while hearing a petition filed International Forum for Justice Human Rights (IFJHRJK) chairman Ahsan Untoo, directed the Principal Secretary Home Department that the matter is treated very urgent about the visit of SHRC team to Central Jail Srinagar on Tuesday.

Nazki ordered that SHRC member Abdul Hamid Wani along with SSP SHRC visit the Central jail and submit the detailed report before the commission.

Prisoners in the Central Jail Srinagar have gone on an indefinite hunger strike protesting undue shifting of some inmates to jails in Jammu, poor food quality, denial of medical aid and delay in their trials.

According to media reports, family members of many inmates in Srinagar jail, said the prison conditions have significantly worsened since the dramatic escape of top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Naveed Jatt on February 6.
