It was already a day of mourning for the Kaloo family of Srinagar’s Soura area who lost their son four days back to an accident. As the family was grieving early in the morning on Monday, they came to know that their daughter, who was in deep shock over the demise of her brother, committed suicide in her room by strangulating herself.

“It was ‘Karbala’ like situation for the family who lost their two children within four days,” one of the mourning relative of Kaloo family told Kashmir Life, adding, “The loss has simply shattered the family.”

Atifa Hussain, 17, was quiet after she came to know the demise of her younger brother four days ago. She wouldn’t talk and remained frozen ever since, as per relatives. “As the family was already in grief over the loss of their son, they couldn’t spare an attention to their daughter who was slowly heading for an extreme,” SHO Soura police station, Rafiq Ahmad Dar told Kashmir Life.

Only four days ago, the family lost their 11-years-old son to an accident while playing with his 5-year-old cousin in the garden of his house. “While swinging, a rope choked his throat and he expired on the spot,” a family relative said.

Early today, the family raised hue and cry in the area once they got to know that police wants to conduct a postmortem to the body. “Sensing the emotions and loss that family gone through, we decided to defer postmortem and handed over the body to family after completing some official requirements,” SHO Rafiq said.
