Six militants were killed in a gunfight in Sekipora area of Bijbehara town in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district on Friday.
Reports said a joint team of army’s 3RR and SOG cordoned off Sekipora early morning following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
As soon as the forces approached the suspected spot, the militants hiding in a residential house opened fire on them. The forces retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
An official said that six militants were killed in the gunfight. Their bodies have been recovered, he said, adding they were establishing their identities.
While confirming the news Army’s Srinagar based spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said: “OpShalagul (Anantnag). Six militants killed, weapons and warlike stores recovered. Operation in progress.”
