SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district seized six commercial passenger vehicles during a special enforcement drive in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tangmarg over violations linked to complaints of harassment and overcharging of tourists and visitors.
The vehicles, including commercial passenger vehicles such as Sumos and autos, were seized under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, police said.
The enforcement drive was conducted following complaints and directions concerning alleged harassment and overcharging of tourists and visitors by commercial passenger vehicle operators.
Baramulla Police said the action was aimed at ensuring safe and hassle-free movement of tourists and visitors and preventing practices that could adversely affect the public and tourism environment.
Police said harassment, overcharging and exploitation of tourists and visitors would not be tolerated and warned that enforcement against such violations would continue.
Strict action would be taken against those found violating the law, police said.
