SRINAGAR: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has completed a two-week capacity-building programme for veterinary officers from Ladakh, focusing on modern livestock farming practices and emerging technologies suited to the region’s agro-climatic conditions.
The training programme on “Future-Ready Livestock Farming” was organised by the Division of Livestock Production and Management at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Shuhama.
The programme aimed to enhance the technical skills of field-level veterinary officers and familiarise them with modern livestock production and management practices and emerging technologies.
At the valedictory function, Prof Riaz Ahmad Shah, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, stressed the need for continuous capacity building of veterinary professionals working at the field level.
Prof Hilal Musadiq Khan, Head of the Division of Livestock Production and Management, said the programme provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of modern livestock production and management practices.
Prof Masood Saleem Mir, Associate Director Extension, underlined the importance of taking scientific innovations and improved livestock management practices from the university to the field.
Prof M T Banday, Senior Professor in the Division and former Dean of the faculty, stressed the need to combine scientific knowledge with locally suitable livestock practices to address emerging challenges in the sector.
Prof I U Sheikh, Professor in the Division, said the knowledge gained during the programme could help translate scientific practices into field-level interventions and improve the productivity and sustainability of livestock farming in Ladakh.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participating veterinary officers.
Faculty members Dr Raoof Ahmad Pattoo and Dr Shiekh Adil were also present on the occasion.
