The demolition drive, led by Chief Enforcement Officer Suhail Nabi Chitsaz, has intensified, targeting major building violations and unauthorised constructions in multiple areas of Srinagar.

An official said the Corporation is committed to enforcing building regulations without exception and that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to resume illegal or unauthorised construction after demolition.

“The drive will continue in the coming days, and no violator will be spared. Any attempt to restart unauthorised construction will invite strict legal action,” the official said.

Issuing a stern warning, Chief Enforcement Officer Suhail Nabi Chitsaz said unauthorised constructions would not be tolerated and that all violations would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

He also recommended immediate disciplinary action against the concerned Ward Officers, Building Inspectors and Supervisors for alleged negligence and possible complicity in permitting such violations. Stressing the need for greater transparency and accountability, Chitsaz further called for a comprehensive reshuffle of the wing.

The official said the demolition campaign is part of a sustained city-wide effort to curb unauthorised urban development, restore compliance with approved building norms and fix responsibility for illegal constructions that have not only altered the city’s planned development but also caused substantial financial loss to the government exchequer.

The official added that the demolition drive will continue across all affected areas until illegal structures are removed and planning laws are strictly enforced. (KDC)
