Sher-e-Kashmir Institute Of Medical Sciences, Soura (SKIMS) has appealed all philanthropists, civil society members and respectable citizens of the State who are desirous to contribute towards helping the poor patients suffering from cancer to deposit/credit the money (Zakat, Sadqat) in the account number SB-15060 J&K Bank, SKIMS Soura.

“To provide financial assistance to the people living below poverty line and falling under the low income group, SKIMS has created SKIMS ENDOWMENT FUND approved by governing body SKIMS vide no. 779-GAD of 2010, Dated: July 6, 2010. All those who require financial assistance will be provided assistance under this fund. The account number of the ENDOWMENT FUND SKIMS is SB-15060,” a statement issued by the SKIMS said on Monday.

The poor fund scheme does exist in other tertiary hospitals of the country. The account will be audited from time to time.

The statement added that Cancer is a dreaded disease and has assumed alarming proportions in the State of J&K. However, if diagnosed at an early stage, cancer is treatable. The cancer treatment and management includes surgery, radio- therapy or a combination of these regimens and involves huge expenditures which is ordinarily beyond the means of patients who come from modest economic backgrounds.

According to the statement,  SKIMS provides all possible help to these patients by exempting the cost of the specialized investigations and provide drugs free of cost out of the amount placed at the disposal of Director SKIMS, from Prime Minister’s and Chief Ministers Fund.

 The governments of Jammu & Kashmir facilitates sufficient funds for carrying out the smooth patient care services but still there is over 50 percent of the population in the State below poverty line and are unable to manage specialized treatment.
