Rasheed at Langate

Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) chief and MLA Langate Er Sheikh Ab Rasheed Sunday asked New Delhi to decide whether it “really believes that politics is battle of ideas, when it comes to Kashmir”.

Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating a separate electric feeder for Langate town and adjoining areas that has come up at a cost of about Rs 35 Lakh at Ganapora area, Rasheed said, “nobody on earth could stop him from speaking for the political rights of Kashmiri people and for doing so he doesn’t need permission or blessings from anyone.”

“While every effort is being made to lower down my voice in and outside Assembly, it hardly matters as speaking truth and narrating history doesn’t mean becoming a traitor or anti-national,” Rasheed said, “a section in bureaucracy and elected government are keen bent to create hurdles in my work and mandate, it doesn’t make me a difference to represent sentiments and aspirations of my people.”

“Nobody can rule J&K at the barrel of gun or by becoming darling of New Delhi,” he said.

Rasheed added that if New Delhi and its “puppets” don’t like his face in and outside Assembly, “they are at liberty to cancel my membership from the state Assembly and ban me from contesting any elections throughout my life”.

“On one hand, GoI tends to desire that separatists should prove their worth by contesting elections, but on other hand the state apparatus leaves no stone unturned to suppress my voice,” he said.

Rasheed asked government officers “to keep in mind that they are government servants and any move to use them for political gains by the ruling alliance, will be dealt with strongly”.
