SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have attached a double-storeyed residential house worth approximately Rs 51 lakh belonging to an alleged drug peddler in connection with a narcotics case registered at Police Station Yaripora.
Police identified the accused as Umar Yousuf Rather, son of Mohammad Yousuf Rather and a resident of Chinigam Frisal in Yaripora.
According to police, the property was found to have allegedly been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics. The attachment was carried out in connection with FIR No. 69/2021 registered at Police Station Yaripora.
Police said the proceedings were conducted under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act through the competent authority SAFEMA in the presence of a police team and an Executive Magistrate.
In a separate action, Kulgam Police, along with revenue officials, carried out a demolition drive in the jurisdiction of Police Station Manzgam.
During the operation, a shop and store structure belonging to Bashir Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Karim Ganie and a resident of Avil KB Pora, was demolished after following legal procedures, police said.
Police further stated that three marlas of state land under Khasra No. 59 were also retrieved from the accused during the operation.
Police said action against narcotics-related activities and properties allegedly generated through proceeds of drug trafficking would continue as part of efforts to curb the drug menace in the region.
