South Kashmir: Police Destroy Illegal Opium Poppy Crop, Register Case

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday detected and destroyed an illegal opium poppy cultivation in the Achabal area and registered a case under the NDPS Act against the accused.

Acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Achabal conducted a search operation and found that an individual, identified as Gh Mohd Dass, a resident of Ganie Mohallah Akingam, had cultivated opium poppy on approximately one kanal of orchard land near his residence.

The illicit crop was destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.

A case (FIR No. 26/2026) under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Achabal, and further investigation is underway.

Police said the action is part of an ongoing crackdown against narcotics and appealed to the public to refrain from cultivating contraband crops, warning that strict legal action will be taken against violators
