Srinagar International Airport  lacks basic facilities like proper toilets, canteens and passengers’ waiting area while the passengers alleged on the pretext of security checking  that they are being made to wait for hours .

A delegation of passengers told local news agency CNS that the Airport lacks facilities and there are no toilets for the physically handicapped persons.

“It was a hectic day for me at Srinagar Airport. For security and other reasons, the Airport staff made me wait for hours. This airport is lacking in every way while the passengers are treated just like cattle,” Rouf Ahmed, a passenger told CNS.

The passengers said that most of the toilets are unclean lacing basic facilities. “At every Airport all over the globe there are separate toilets for handicapped persons but it is the other way at Srinagar Airport ,” another passenger said.

There is a heating system in place in the departure hall of the Airport which is not working properly as a result of which many passengers especially the aged people and passengers travelling with infants face immense problems due to cold.

When contacted, Director Srinagar Airport, K.S.Rao told CNS that the authorities can’t compromise on security and every passenger is obliged to cooperate with the security staff. He however admitted that there are few bottlenecks and the lane where frisking and checking is done is narrow. “We will soon fix this problem but one thing is clear that that Srinagar Airport provided every facility to its passengers,” he said adding that there are separate toilet for handicapped persons.
