SRINAGAR: Most parts of Kashmir recorded above-normal maximum temperatures on Friday, with Qazigund and Kokernag experiencing the highest departures from normal levels. In contrast, several areas in the Jammu region saw a dip in day temperatures, staying below seasonal averages.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8°C, which was 5.6°C above normal. Qazigund registered 35.0°C, marking a 7.6°C departure from normal, while Kokernag recorded 34.2°C, 7.0°C above the seasonal average. Pahalgam and Kupwara both reported 4.8°C above normal at 29.6°C and 34.5°C respectively. Gulmarg stood at 25.7°C, 5.7°C above normal.
In the Jammu region, however, Jammu city recorded a maximum of 33.0°C, which was 4.6°C below normal. Katra saw the highest dip with 27.0°C, 7.8°C below normal. Batote recorded 27.2°C (1.1°C below normal), while Banihal and Bhaderwah saw slight rises at 31.0°C and 32.6°C, respectively.
In Ladakh, Leh and Kargil recorded 30.4°C and 31.8°C, respectively.
The temperature pattern suggests continued heat stress in Kashmir, while a brief relief has been observed in some parts of the Jammu region.
