Terming the situation in Gaza as “inhuman,” Mirwaiz said the humanitarian crisis has worsened, with Palestinians facing airstrikes even while waiting for food aid. He said that 92 civilians, including children, were killed in Israeli strikes on Thursday alone.
“Now Iranian civilians are also being killed as Israeli aggression extends into Iran. This, coupled with reports of possible U.S. military intervention, has caused distress among the people of Kashmir who share cultural and religious ties with the region,” he said.
Mirwaiz called for diplomatic engagement, stating that military action will only worsen the crisis. “Concerns on all sides can be addressed through peaceful dialogue rather than force,” he said.
The cleric also marked the 61st foundation day of the Awami Action Committee (AAC). He reaffirmed commitment to its principles, including resolving conflict through dialogue and accountability in governance.
Highlighting the health condition of jailed separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mirwaiz said his condition has deteriorated and he requires urgent surgery. He claimed that Shah’s family has been denied access to communicate with him and their bail plea was rejected despite his grave condition.
“It is disturbing that even in such emergencies, political prisoners are denied basic rights. The prolonged incarceration without due legal process has turned the process itself into punishment,” he said.
Mirwaiz appealed to the Government of India and J&K administration to ensure immediate medical attention for Shah and allow his family access. He urged elected representatives in Jammu and Kashmir to raise the issue and extend assistance.
