Srinagar

The Srinagar Jammu highway has been thrown open for the two way traffic on Wednesday.

Authorities in Kashmir said except big vehicles all the small would be allowed to move on the highway from Srinagar to Jammu and Jammu to Srinagar. Due to the fair weather, the highway was restored for two-way traffic after it remained closed for almost 22 days.

“The traffic will be allowed from both the sides, as there has been an improvement in the weather,” an official of the traffic department said.

“The precautions are being taken keeping the safety of the travellers in mind,” he added.

Since all essentials of life are routed into the landlocked Kashmir Valley through this highway, temporary closures due to snowfall and landslides often result to face various problems during winter.
