SRINAGAR: Srinagar Police on Tuesday carried out searches at the residences of several suspects linked to proscribed organisations, aiming to weaken the support structures behind militant activity.
“Individuals whose residences were searched include Noor Mohammad Sheikh of Kanimazar, Waseem Tariq Matta of Rampora, and Anjum Younis of Kenihama. Others include Bilal Ahmad Lone of Syedpora Eidgah, Faizyab Showkat Dewani of Pater Masjid Zainakadal, and Bilal Lone alias Choonin of Saidpora Eidgah. The list also features Manzoor Tola of Khan-e-Sokhta, Mohammad Ayoub Dar of Reiteng Khanyar, and Mushtaq Ahmad Bachoon of Kathidarwaza Rainawari,” police said in a statement.
Residence of Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, originally from Trehgam, Kupwara and currently residing at Deviagan, Hawal, was also searched. “Firdous Ahmad Dar of Ibrahim Colony, involved in FIR No. 46/2023 at Police Station Chanpora, was among those targeted as well,” police said.
Police said the searches were conducted in accordance with proper legal procedures, under the supervision of senior officers, and in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses. The objective was to seize arms, documents, and digital devices that may aid in evidence collection and intelligence gathering, and help detect or prevent any conspiracies or activities threatening national security.
According to the statement, this decisive action is part of Jammu and Kashmir Police’s wider strategy to weaken the operational network of terror groups by identifying and prosecuting individuals engaged in unlawful and anti-national activities. (KNO)
