SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Traffic Police has directed auto rickshaw operators to install fare meters by December 10, warning that non-compliance will result in strict legal action.
This directive is part of an ongoing campaign to address traffic violations across the Kashmir Valley.
A senior traffic police officer said that while enforcement could begin immediately, a 10-day grace period has been granted, considering the livelihoods of auto rickshaw operators.
“We could start taking action now, but to account for their livelihood, we have provided 10 days for them to install fare meters,” the officer said.
The current drive specifically targets commercial vehicles in Srinagar. Authorities have stated that failure to adhere to the directions will lead to legal action against defaulters.
This initiative aligns with a broader crackdown on traffic violations, which has already resulted in the seizure of thousands of vehicles across the valley. (KNO).
