SRINAGAR: The Government of India has allocated a total of Rs 5.45 crore to 32 drug de-addiction centres in Jammu and Kashmir under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) from 2021 to November 2024.
Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, BL Verma, shared the data in Parliament. According to the report, Jammu and Kashmir is home to 32 drug de-addiction centres, categorised as follows:
One under Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA)
Three under Outreach and Drop-In Centres (ODIC)
Two under Community-Based Peer-Led Interventions (CPLI)
Five under District De-Addiction Centres (DDAC)
Twenty under Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATF)
One under State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA)
The data revealed that Rs 0.6 crore was allocated in 2021, Rs 2.7 crore in 2022, and Rs 2.15 crore in 2023, totaling Rs 5.45 crore for the period.
To combat substance use, the Ministry implements the NAPDDR, a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at preventive education, capacity building, and drug demand reduction programmes.
The scheme also extends financial assistance to State Governments/Union Territory Administrations and supports NGOs and Voluntary Organizations (VOs) to run IRCAs, CPLIs, ODICs, DDACs, and Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs) in government hospitals. (KNO)
