SSG Road Reopened After Landslides Cleared

The road had been blocked after an intense cloudburst hit the Ranga Morh and Sarbal areas of Sonamarg on the evening of Thursday, triggering a major mudslide and a sharp rise in water levels in rivers and streams.

The resulting flash flood swept large quantities of debris onto the road, forcing authorities to temporarily close the Srinagar–Leh Highway.

The affected stretches were cleared overnight through coordinated efforts by the Traffic Police, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and local police, officials said.

Vehicles stranded because of the landslides were also safely evacuated, they added.

Officials said traffic would be allowed to move in accordance with the prescribed traffic advisory once the necessary clearance and green signal are issued.

Motorists have been advised to follow traffic advisories and directions issued by authorities and exercise caution while travelling through vulnerable stretches of the SSG Road.
