Accusing the authorities of ignoring their plight, hundreds of stranded passengers at Jammu Sarai today protested against the government for not coming to their rescue.

As per a local wire agency KNS, the stranded people protested against the authorities for not providing them any kind of relief. Protesters alleged that no officials from the government had visited them so far neither has any kind of relief been provided to them.

“Government has failed to provide us any kind of relief and when we raise slogans against its (government’s) negligence the local police is threatening us with dire consequences if we continued to protest”, said Farooz Ahmad Bhat, a stranded passenger of Anantnag. He said that the Police treated Kashmiri protesters as if they were demanding Azadi.

Protesters alleged that the SHO of police station general bus stand Jammu issued threats to them. “Why you Kashmiri people have come here. You’re making the situation worse by protesting against government again and again”, they accused the SHO of saying.

Terming the Police threat intolerable, a protester Abdul Salam Khan of Sopore said that his two young children are without food since the road had been declared closed, adding, “What the hell is the government doing? It is announcing this and that on televisions and making hollow claims that free relief and shelter has been provided to stranded passengers”. Khan said that the attitude of police was not civilized.

Turning down the allegations of the protesters, SHO police station GBS Neeraj Kumar said that neither he nor any of his subordinates had threatened any protester. “Why should I issue threats to them? I only went there to ask them to remain peaceful and not to block roads or streets. Protesters were demanding that they should be sent to Kashmir by air”, said SHO.  “Food, medicine and shelter is being arranged for them”, he informed.
