As per a police spokesperson a Sumo driver was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 2000/- after he was convicted in a hit and run case in Uri in which a lady had lost her life in 2009.

The statement reads a lady Zoona Begum wife of Gulla Bhat resident of Garkote Uri, Baramulla died when a Sumo bearing registration No. JK05A/1648 hit her near Captain Morh, Uri on January 11, 2009. The driver fled away from spot.

A case FIR No. 11/2009 U/S 279,304-A RPC, 6/7,177 MV Act was registered in Police Station Uri. During investigation of the case, Baramulla police traced and arrested the accused driver Latief Khan. The challan of the case was produced before the Court of Law.

On Tuesday Sub-Judge Uri convicted the accused Latief Khan son of Sharief Khan resident of Danisydan, Uri and sentenced him to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs. 2000/-. The prosecution wing of Police Baramulla was hailed for their meticulous effort during the trial of the case, reads the statement.
