SRINAGAR: Police in Anantnag district arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered charas and ganja from his possession in the Ashajipora area on Monday, officials said.
The accused was identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh, a resident of Nazuk Mohalla, Ganjiwara. Police said a team from Police Post Janglatmandi intercepted him at Ashajipora following credible information.
A search of his possession led to the recovery of one stick of charas weighing about 3 grams and 357 grams of ganja, police said. The seized substances were taken into custody in accordance with legal procedure.
Police said FIR No. 319/2026 has been registered at Police Station Anantnag under relevant provisions of law, and an investigation is under way.
Investigators are examining the source of the recovered contraband and looking into possible links with other individuals or networks involved in its supply.
Anantnag Police said it would continue action against drug trafficking and substance abuse and urged residents to share credible information about narcotics-related activities with the police.
