Awami Mutahida Mahaz (People’s United Front) which includes CPI (M) state Secretary Yousuf Tarigami has decided against contesting upcoming Lok Sabha polls. However, the forum has appealed people to vote against BJP. The forum has not made it clear whether it will support any particular party or not which contests against BJP.

“The forum will not contest and it has decided to focus on the basic and urgent issues being faced by the people of the state,” a statement of the forum said on Wednesday.

“In the backdrop of the election process for the Lok Sabha, BJP claims to be an alternative at the national level because of the misgovernance, corruption and over all failure of the UPA. Though it is far from the truth, BJP has no different and distinct policies which could help the country to come out of the present quagmire,” the statement said.

It added, “The fact remains that BJP is regressive, communal and divisive in its outlook and projects policies which are bound to undermine the age-old plural ethos and secular traditions of our people.  As such, the people of the country must rise to the occasion and defeat the designs of this rabid communal platform.”

The decision about not contesting the LS polls was taken in a meeting of the forum which was held and attended by Yousuf Tarigami, Hakeem Yaseen, Sheikh Abdul Rehman, Abdul Rashid Kabli, Abdul Rehman Tukroo and I.D.Khajuria.

The statement further said that keeping the people’s sufferings in mind the forum was formed in September 2013 to help evolve alternate policies which could address the long pending urges and aspirations of our people. “We firmly believe that such policies can only emerge through sustained mass struggles.  In present elections people have a choice among parties and individuals only and not in terms of alternative policies,” the statement said.
