Expressing deep concern at the increasing hostilities on border, CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has urged the leadership of India and Pakistan to intervene and put an end to the skirmishes between the troops which has led to loss of innumerable precious lives.

Tarigami said the increased incidents of ceasefire violation on Line of Control (LoC) has provided a room to jingoistic voices and war mongers who are hellbent to deteriorate the the fragile relations between the two neighboring countries.

Referring to latest exchange of fire in Poonch and Uri sectors, Tarigami said the killing of five Indian soldiers in an ambush on the border is unfortunate and strongly commendable. These provocative incidents must come to an end, as soon as better.”Such down slide in border situation not only generates fear and panic among the inhabitants of these areas but have the potential to escalate the situation beyond control,” he observed.

He said the silencing of guns along the border had made other important initiatives possible which included the trade and travel across the LoC. “But unfortunately, the incidents of skirmishes and hostilities along the border derail the efforts of formation of better understanding and amity between the two neighboring countries,” he stressed.

The CPI (M) leader observed that for the last couple of years, despite many odds, there is a genuine commitment to better relations among political leaders in both New Delhi and Islamabad, although some sections of the society in both countries are skeptical given the long history of conflict and mutual suspicion.

“The tragedy of the fragile relations between these two neighboring countries is that the painstaking progress at different levels can be overturned in an instant by violence. This for what, it is in the interests of the entire region, that the leadership of both the countries must rise to the occasion and ensure cessation of hostilities across the border. For this dialogue is the only way out,” he remarked.
