Tenders for Mughal Road Tunnel to Follow DPR Approval, Govt Informs Assembly

   

SRINAGAR: The government on Wednesday told the House that tenders for the proposed Mughal Road Tunnel (Pir-ki-Gali Tunnel) will be invited only after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is approved and all statutory clearances are obtained.

Replying to a question from MLA Ch Mohammad Akram on the tunnel’s construction, the Minister in charge said the alignment submitted by DPR consultant M/s SMEC (India) Pvt. Ltd. was reviewed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on 21 January 2026.

The government clarified that the DPR preparation will begin only after MoRTH approves the alignment. Subsequently, tenders for the project will be issued only after DPR approval and completion of all necessary statutory clearances, including Forest, Wildlife, and Land Acquisition approvals, in accordance with the rules.
