After a long wait, Mushaal Mullick wife of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik arrived to a rousing reception in Srinagar along with her husband.
Malik who tied the knot with Pakistani artist earlier this year was expected to bring her wife much earlier to Srinagar, but for the turbulent situation in Kashmir and changing mood of people in power, the plan was delayed.
Malik had been kept under a prolonged house arrest following unrest in Kashmir over the Shopian rape and murders.
Soon after he was released Malik flew to Pakistan to bring his bride. Finally the Malik couple landed in Kashmir September 6.
They were received by a large number of supporters at the Srinagar airport, wherefrom they were taken to their Maisuma residence in a large cavalcade. At Maisuma entire locality seemed to have gathered at the newly furbished house of Malik amidst the constant wanwun (wedding songs) by women.
Hundreds of JKLF supporters, news photographers and onlookers jostled with each other to catch the flashing smile of the bride.
British-born Mushaal Mullick is pursuing a degree in political economy from the London School of Economics. She is the daughter of renowned Pakistani economist M A Hussain Mullick and her mother is a senior leader of the Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League.
Fond of Dal Lake and mountains of Kashmir, Mushaal is busy sight-seeing these days. She is also visiting shrines and mosques with surprising delight of fellow worshippers. After paying her obeisance at Hazratbal, Mushaal also visited Chrar i Sharief shrine.
By marrying outside state Malik has joined the company of leaders of Mirwaiz Umar, Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Sajjad Lone.
But the aura surrounding Malik’s is first of its kind in Kashmir. With glamorous background of both bride and groom, their marriage has become talk of the town. Some have even predicted Mushaal Mullick as the next leader, as no other bride has acquired such a visibility as Mushaal.
Silencing the claims Yasin Malik told reporters that his wife will not be involved in politics, and added that “Kashmir issue has to be resolved as per the wishes of people.”
He also announced that his first love is the “freedom movement”
