Badami Bagh Cantonment Board Srinagar has notified 156 constructions in Sonawar area among which 07 buildings have already been demolished. Board has however sanctioned 04 commercial buildings to local citizens. Sonawar, Indra Nagar,Shivpora and Batwara come under Cantonment Board and it looks after the sanitation requirements in the said areas.

“Due to imposition of restriction scheme under Defence Works Act 1903, the Badami Bagh Cantonment Board for some time did not consider the applications for constructions falling within 500 yards from 2 FOD wall,” the state legislator was informed by the government during the recently concluded session.

The government made it clear that there is no civil area in the cantonment. “There is no notified civil area in Badami Bagh Cantonment,” it said.

The government said that there are 156 constructions belonging to local citizens which have been notified as unauthorized and illegal by the Badami Bagh Cantonment Board.

Government made it clear that the Cantonement Board is looking after the sanitation requirements in the areas of Sonawar, Indra Nagar,Shivpora and Batwara and the Board has formulated drainage/sewerage scheme to improve the sanitation of the area.

The government however explained that the electric infrastructure is maintained by the Power Development Department and modernization in these areas is being covered under PART-B of RAPDRP for Srinagar project area while as the drinking water to the area is provided by Public Health Engineering Department.
