SRINAGAR: National Conference MLA Altaf Kalloo, on Friday raised in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly an objection to a social media video which he said had misrepresented an interaction between him and another elected representative.
Raising the matter during the House proceedings, Kalloo asked Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to consider appropriate action over the circulation of the video and its accompanying description, which he alleged was disrespectful towards elected representatives.
Kalloo said the video, circulated on social media a day earlier, showed him interacting with another MLA and was accompanied by a claim that he was offering gutka to the legislator.
He clarified that the substance visible in the video was chewing gum and not gutka, and objected to what he described as a misleading portrayal of the incident.
“Yesterday, my video was uploaded on social media showing that I was giving gutka to another MLA, but that was nothing, it was a chewing gum. They are disrespecting us,” Kalloo said in the House.
The MLA urged the Speaker to intervene and consider appropriate action against those responsible for what he alleged was misleading and disrespectful coverage of elected representatives.
