SRINAGAR: Thousands of devotees gathered at the Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar for night-long prayers on the eve of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), with the sacred relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) displayed after the pre-dawn prayers.
Devotees, including men, women, youth and elderly people, began arriving at the shrine from late evening from different parts of the Valley to participate in congregational prayers marking the birth anniversary of the Prophet (SAW).
The shrine remained reverberant with Darood-o-Azkar, Quranic recitations, Naat Khwani and prayers throughout the night. Devotees also offered special supplications seeking peace and forgiveness.
Following the pre-dawn prayers, the Moi-e-Muqaddas, the sacred relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was displayed for devotees, who offered prayers and glimpsed the relic amid an atmosphere of religious devotion.
The administration and JK Waqf Board had put in place arrangements covering lighting, sanitation, drinking water, transport and medical facilities for the devotees.
Night-long prayers were also held at several other major shrines and mosques across Jammu and Kashmir.
Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) is observed annually on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
