SRINAGAR: A three-day orientation programme for Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of Jammu and Kashmir is set to begin on January 9, 2025, at the Central Hall of the J&K Legislative Assembly Complex, Jammu.
Organised by the J&K Legislative Assembly Secretariat in collaboration with PRIDE (Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies), Lok Sabha Secretariat, the programme aims to equip newly elected legislators with essential knowledge on parliamentary practices, procedures, and the conduct of business in the House.
The inaugural session will be attended by the Chief Minister, Speaker of the J&K Legislative Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister, and senior officials.
This marks a significant step for the Legislative Assembly, which was constituted on October 8, 2024. Notably, 50 of the current members are first-time legislators, underscoring the importance of the programme in preparing them to fulfil their legislative responsibilities.
Key topics to be addressed during the orientation include legislative processes, budgetary procedures, executive accountability, the committee system, and effective legislative practices. Eminent parliamentarians, including Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, NK Premachandran, and Dr Satyapal Singh, will lead discussions alongside senior officers from the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
Participants will also benefit from insights into the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA), a digital initiative aimed at streamlining legislative processes.
