Truck Seized, Three Nabbed in Kulgam, Baramulla Drug Crackdown

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested three alleged drug peddlers during separate operations in Baramulla and Kulgam districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

“In Baramulla, a police team from Police Station Tangmarg, led by SHO Tangmarg, set up a checkpoint at Ferozpora Mahyan Crossing. During checking, one individual identified as Younis Mohammad Bhat, son of Gh Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Reram, Kunzer, was intercepted. On search, 6 grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession. He was arrested on the spot and shifted to the police station for further investigation,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

In a separate operation in Kulgam, a police party from Police Station Kulgam intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK19-4106 at a checkpoint in Village Chancer. “The truck was occupied by two individuals. Upon search, 6.785 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance was recovered. The accused were identified as Mohd Sahil, son of Irshad Ahmad Wani, resident of Seri Ramban (driver), and Majid Ahmad Malik, son of Rafiq Ahmad Malik, resident of Tazipora, Mohammadpora, Kulgam. Both were arrested and shifted to the police station, while the vehicle used in the offence was also seized.”

Cases under relevant provisions of the law have been registered in both instances, and investigations are underway.
