SRINAGAR: At least two young men are feared to have drowned in two different incidents across Kupwara, reports from diverse sources said. One of the drowned was a promising student pursuing his MBBS.

The incidents of drowning are the outcome of the youth’s desperation to play with water while beating the heat. The lack of safety systems around Kashmir’s water bodies is adding to the crisis.

Deaths By Drowning

Reports reaching from Kupwara said three youth had gone bathing in an irrigation check dam. They drowned. However, two of them somehow managed to swim to the water storage banks. However, the third one, identified as Shahid Amin Beigh son of Mohammad Amin Beigh, could not make it. Technically missing but he is presumed dead. The latest reports said his body was finally fished out.

Shahid had recently qualified for NEET and was pursuing MBBS. Now society and the cops are working together to locate the body and fish him out.

Later in the evening, another report said a teenager drowned in Lolab. Not immediately confirmed by government sources, reports identified him as Mohammad Aqib Dar, son of Ishtiyaq Ahmad Dar, a resident of Bhat Mohalla Dorousa.
