Two Drug Peddlers Arrested in Kashmir, Contraband Seized

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested two individuals in Pulwama and Kupwara districts and recovered contraband substances including charas and heroin-like material from their possession.

In South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a police team from Police Station Rajpora intercepted a suspicious individual during a routine naka checking near Argecheck. Upon conducting a personal search, officers recovered approximately 60 grams of charas. The accused has been identified as Javaid Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Akbar Mir, a resident of Pakherpora. He was taken into custody on the spot and is currently being held at the police station.

In a separate operation in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a police team from Police Station Kupwara established a checkpoint at Main Tikker. There, they intercepted a man whose search led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin-like substance. The accused was identified as Danish Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Yousuf Sheikh, a resident of Tikker Kupwara. He has also been arrested and remains in custody.

Police have registered cases under relevant provisions of the law at both police stations and initiated further investigations.

A police spokesperson reiterated the department’s commitment to tackling the drug menace, stating, “The Jammu and Kashmir Police will continue its efforts to eliminate drug abuse and trafficking. We urge members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any information regarding drug-related activities.”
