Satish Sharma Interacts with Tourists, Vows Improved Facilities in Pahalgam

   

SRINAGAR: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport and Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, visited Pahalgam on Tuesday and met with local taxi operators to discuss issues affecting the transport sector in the area.

The meeting focused on infrastructure, permit restrictions, and operational challenges. Taxi owners submitted a list of demands, which included better road conditions, increased seasonal permits, route rationalisation, and improved parking and regulatory systems. The delegation highlighted the role of taxi services in supporting tourism and sought timely government intervention.

The Minister acknowledged the concerns and assured the delegation that the issues would be taken up with relevant departments. He committed to follow-up meetings to ensure progress on the demands.

Sharma also held a review with the Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Anantnag, and other officials to assess driving test and vehicle fitness services. He directed the department to explore localised options for conducting these services to reduce delays and inconvenience.

He stressed the need to improve digital services and link transport systems with broader IT initiatives under Digital India.

During his visit, the Minister also interacted with tourists from various states and reviewed arrangements for their safety and convenience. He reiterated the government’s commitment to promote Pahalgam as an accessible and visitor-friendly destination.

Sharma concluded his visit with a stop at Gauri Shankar Mandir, where he offered prayers for peace and the welfare of the region and the nation.
