According to F and ES Kashmir, the State Fire Control Room at Batamaloo received information about the blaze at around 3 am, following which fire tenders from Fire Stations Babdemb, Rainawari and MR Gunj, along with teams from the F&ES Headquarters, were rushed to the spot.

Officials said the congested nature of the locality necessitated the deployment of additional fire tenders to reinforce the firefighting operation.

A four-storeyed residential house suffered extensive damage, with its third floor and attic completely gutted in the blaze. The second and ground floors were also damaged due to water, heat and smoke. A nearby three-storeyed residential house sustained partial damage, the officials said.

The firefighting operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Director, Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, with senior officers monitoring the operation on the ground.

The cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained and is under investigation, the Fire and Emergency Services said.
