SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two police officers for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 to facilitate the closure of a case registered at Ram Munshi Bagh police station in Srinagar.
The ACB said it received a complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the investigating officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Ram Munshi Bagh police station, had demanded illegal gratification through Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
Following verification, the allegations were found to have prima facie merit, after which the ACB registered FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A trap was subsequently laid, during which Bhat was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 on behalf of Karanjeet Singh.
The bribe money was recovered from Bhat in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was taken into custody. The ACB later arrested Singh, who was allegedly involved in the demand.
Further investigation is underway.
