The unionist political parties Thursday condoled the demise of Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Mufti breathed his last at AIIMs early today at 07:30 am. He is being flown to Srinagar by 1:30 pm today.

Senior Congress politician, Prof Saifuddin Soz, expressed profound grief and sorrow.

The statement issued is produced here:

I express my deepest anguish at the passing away of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sahib, Chief Minister J&K State, rather prematurely.

It is a great loss to the people of J&K State whom he wanted to serve in different ways.

I considered Mufti Sahib as one of seasoned politicians of India who had stood up for politics of secularism and pluralism. The stance of choosing a difficult proposition by him in recent times could be characterized as a compulsion created by the peculiar political circumstances. It is another thing that people like me exercised their right to differ with him.

Mufti Sahib’s passing away is a great loss to the people of J&K State in many ways. Mufti Sahib’s Healing Touch philosophy had created an atmosphere of understanding for youth as he (Mufti Sahib) wanted the youth to play a role in Nation-Building.

It is a natural phenomenon in politics to have differences and that is what happened in recent months, but we have to assess Mufti Sahib’s contribution in a broader frame and that way it is a time to lament his premature death as a great loss to the people of the State.

Mufti Sahib happened to be a good administrator and he had certain thoughts how to move about in future, but providence scuttled that process. I offer my deepest condolences to Mehbooba Ji, Mrs. Late Mufti Sahib and other members of the family and pray to God to grant them fortitude to bear this loss.”

The state chief of Congress, G A Mir issued the following statement:

Describing the passing away of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as a great loss to the State. Mir expressed deepest shock and grief over the demise of Mufti Saheb, who breathed his last today morning in AIIMS, Delhi.

Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee Half Mast the Party Flag as a mark of respect to late CM.

Expressing deep shock and grief over the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Chief Minister of J&K, CPI (m) politician and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami termed his demise as a huge loss to the state polity in Jammu and Kashmir.
