SRINAGAR

The district administration on Friday gave 24 hours deadline to a person allegedly involved in turning his residential house into an ‘illegal’ hostel for girls studying in different coaching centers in Parraypora Baghat.

According to Syed Sajad Ahmad Qadri, Assistant Commissioner Nazool Srinagar the district administration had received a complaint of harassment from some parents whose wards were residing in an ‘illegal’ hostel at Parraypora. “The owner of the building has not registered his house as a hostel. He had given three rooms to 22 girls on rent proving them boarding and lodging. Each girl inmate was supposed to pay Rs 6000 per month to the owner of the building,” Mr Qadri told KNS.

Mr Qadri informed further that on receiving the complaint he along with SDPO Saddar and some other officers of the civil administration went for inspection of the building. “The girls residing in this illegal hostel said that some unidentified goons had created panic by smashing windows of the building in late night hours,” the AC Nazool added.

The shocked hostel inmates, he said, had raised hue and cry which prevented the goons to sneak in. Mr Qadri said that the angry girls residing in the hostel alleged of inadequate security arrangements besides of lack of proper boarding and lodging facilities. “We have provided them security for tonight and the owner of this illegal hostel, besides the parents of girl inmates have been informed to evacuate their wards till tomorrow,” Mr Qadri informed.

The SDP Saddar, Feroze Ahmad Qadri, when contacted told KNS: “This is not the only case where a residential house in this area has been turned into an illegal hostel but we need the intervention from the district administration to curb this menace. We had received complaints of inadequate infrastructure and poor boarding and lodging facilities on which we visited the spot to check the same.”
