SRINAGAR: A 30-year-old labourer who was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Salasan area of Boniyar in Uri has succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura, officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Dhaker, son of Ashmali Dhaker, a resident of Salasan, Boniyar, was hit by an unidentified vehicle in the area on Wednesday evening.
Locals shifted him to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Boniyar for treatment. Given the critical nature of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to GMC Baramulla and later shifted to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the accident, police registered a case at Police Station Boniyar and launched an investigation to identify the vehicle and trace its driver.
Officials said police later worked out the case and arrested the accused within hours. The accused was identified as Mohd Amin Ganie, son of Abdul Rasheed Ganie, a resident of Larri, Boniyar.
The vehicle involved in the accident has also been seized, officials said.
