VC Attaches ‘Tainted’ Official

KL Report

SRINAGAR

In a significant development, Vice chancellor Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad in consultation with other top officials of the varsity relieved Dr Mohammad Yousuf Bhat Deputy Registrar from key positions like General Administration, General and Telephone and attached him to Examination Block as Deputy Controller.

Inside sources told CNS that University administration had constituted an inquiry committee against the officials after the reports surfaced that he has taken undue advantage of his political influence and appointed more than twenty persons from his home district Ganderbal including his brother ,brother in law and his cousins into different sections like Examination Block, Landscape and Administrative Block.

One of the Professors of Social science faculty told CNS that development is significant because the said official is having close contacts with top bureaucrats and politicians of the State. Another official of Varsity said that VC took this decision because Inquiry committee constituted to probe his wrongdoings has indicted him.

Kashmir University Teachers Association President, Prof. Muhammad Yousf Ganie told CNS that there is no accountability while the prevailing unrest and conflict in Valley is being encashed by vested interests. “Let the corrupt officials face music and let them make understand that they are not above law,” he said

Another professor on condition of anonymity told CNS that the said official made these appointments illegally during the tenure of former VC and Registrar. “This illegal appointment scam reached to Raj Bhavan and Governor who is also the Chancellor of the University took serious note of this complaint and directed VC for investigation,” he said.

Sources said that the said officials filled his coffers through these illegal appointments.

Pertinently, Varsity Teachers Association met VC two days back over the rampant corruption and malpractices prevalent in University.

Dr Mohammad Yousuf Bhat said that it was a routine transfer and it has nothing to do with any other issue. “The allegations leveled against me are base. Only Vice Chancellor is the appointing authority and even Registrar can’t make an appointment,” he said.

When contacted, VC, Kashmir University, Prof Talat Ahmed told CNS that anytime reshuffle in the administration could take place. “I can’t tell you anything about this issue. It was a routine reshuffle,” VC said. (CNS)
