SRINAGAR: A major tragedy was narrowly averted on Saturday after a loaded trailer vehicle veered off the Srinagar–Kargil highway and plunged into a deep gorge near Zojila in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Officials said the accident took place near Pani Matha on the Zojila axis when the 14-wheeler trailer, en route to Kargil, reportedly lost control and rolled down the mountainside.
The vehicle, bearing registration number JK01BC-2359, sustained extensive damage in the incident.
Despite the impact, both the driver and conductor escaped unhurt, officials confirmed.
Police and civil administration teams immediately reached the spot and launched rescue and assessment operations. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
