State’s premier anti-graft body, Vigilance Organization has filed 18 corruption cases against big guns in the year 2014. All these cases according to Vigilance sources have yet not reached the logical conclusion for want of prosecution sanction and according to sources and documents available with CNS, those involved in corruption and other cases continue to remain unpunished.

Out of the 18 officials against whom Vigilance Organization has registered corruption cases, 9 hail from Kashmir Division, 8 are from Jammu while one official is from Ladakh Division. As per Vigilance records, all these cases have been filed against these officials in the year 2014, after the anti-graft body received complaints against them from different quarters and eminent civil society members.

Some of officials against whom formal FIR’s have been lodged for their alleged involvement in corruption and embezzlement of government funds include Joint Director CAPD, Abdul Rashid Var, Block Medical Officer Beerwah Fayaz Ahmed Banday, Assistant Executive Engineer PDD sub-division Sopore Nazir Ahmed Bhat, Executive Engineer Flood Control Handwara Sarwar Dar and IFS officer Farooq Ahmed Geelani. Besides, the corruption cases have also been filed against Deputy Secretary Agricultural Production, Chief Education Officer Budgam, and CEO Integrated Wasteland Development Project (IWDP) Rambiara Shopian.

A senior Vigilance official told CNS that the organization is waiting for the government nod to go ahead with their probe. “There is no question of anyone exerting political pressure as all cases are dealt with according to the provisions of the law and this is evident from the fact that even senior officers have been booked,” he said.
