Strong protests erupted in Palhalan area on Wednesday, soon after the bodies of two local militants killed in an encounter yesterday were laid to rest.
Police resorted to lathi charge and heavy teargas shelling on protesters in which many people were injured.
The protesters were alleging that the two local militants, Aaqib Rashid and Bilal Ahmad, were killed in custody after arresting them.
Thousands of people had gathered to join the funeral prayers of the slain militants.
Later people held protest demonstration and tried to block the highway. However, heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces intercepted them.
