The local Meteorological Department of Kashmir on Thursday predicted the moderate rainfall in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of the valley during the next 24 hours.

An official from the Met department said that there are chances of intermittent rains and snow in some parts till Friday; however, the weather conditions are likely to improve from Saturday.

On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the hilly areas including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Bhaderwah, Kupwara and Banihal received moderate to heavy snowfall respectively.

Meanwhile, the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir received 29 cm of snow while Kupwara received 11 cm of snowfall during the night.

The Srinagar city recorded a minimum of 0.6 degree Celsius temperature while  Qazigund recorded 1.2 degree Celsius. Pahalgam freezes at minus 0.1 degree Celsius and Gulmarg was at minus 3.2 degree Celsius.

Leh town in Ladakh division recorded minus 2.6, Kargil minus 12.6 and Drass was at minus 5.3 degrees Celsius. The Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 11.7 degrees Celsius, Katra town 9.6, Batote minus 1.6, Bannihal 0.2 and Bhaderwah was at minus 0.1.
