While strongly condemning the killing of a civilian in Tral area of Pulwama district by army on Monday, Peoples Democratic Front president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin Tuesday reminded the government of its promise of zero tolerance on human rights violations.

“If one brother is militant, what is the sin of the other, who has been killed? Where is government’s promise of zero tolerance on human rights violations? Government says peace has returned then why the innocents are being killed,” Hakim said in a statement.

“It seems government’s promise within and outside the Assembly of peace, freedom and zero tolerance is a hoax. Such incidents ca derail peace in the state and it is the duty of the government to ensure that such incidents aren’t repeated,” he added.

Demanding an independent and time bound probe into the latest killing, the PDF chairman said, “Government should without wasting a minute hold an independent and time bound probe into the killing and punish the culprits. The credibility of probes and commissions has been eroded as in the past most of these have not been taken to the conclusion.”

He demanded that police and security forces must be made accountable.

The MLA Khansahib also expressed sympathies and condolence with the family of the slain youth.
