Democratic Freedom Party Chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah has said that when India was fighting a political movement against the British forces, Kashmiri’s at that time were fighting against the Dogra rule.

“In 1947 54 states of India were given the right to decide whether they want integration either with India or Pakistan. At that time the Muslim majority states integrated with Pakistan and Hindu majority integrated with India,” the senior hurriyat leader said.

“Two Non-Muslim states Junagadh and Hyderabad declared their independence, however India by the use of police forces integrated them with India.

But only the fate of one unfortunate Muslim majority state, Kashmir could not be decided at the proper time”, he added.
He said, however the first prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru stated at that time said that the people of Jammu an Kashmir will be given an opportunity at an appropriate time

“Panditji said that if the Kashmiri’s through the plebiscite will decide that they will part their ways with India, the decision will be accepted by India. But later on India diverted from its promises and occupied the state of Jammu and Kashmir by the sheer use of power,’ DFP Chairman said.

“Kashmir nation from the last 65 years has been fighting against the illegal occupation of India on Kashmir. In this struggle of ours more than 5 lakh people have been martyred,” he said.

He said that the India will try to celebrate the republic day in the valley on the same lines as in other parts of the country, but Kashmiri’s will always against the occupation. “It is a shame on part of India that they are forcibly asking for flagging ceremony in the valley. It has been a routine here,’ he said.

Reiterating his call for fighting till the Kashmir issue is resolved as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, he said that they will continue to observe the 26 January as a black day till the Indian occupation remains here.
